The year, 1998. The place, St. Lucia Road, Waterhouse, Kingston, King Jammys Recording Studio. Jamaica and the rest of the world, were about to be introduced to a group of musical creative and lyrical individuals who created an all new sound in Dancehall music unlike anything heard at the time...
It was legendary music producer King Jammys himself, that had the vision and saw the potential in these young men from Waterhouse. He brought Mark “Mean Dawg” Henry, Andre “Suku” Gray, Ranaldo “Rumblood” Evans (he left the group in 2008) and Kunley McCarthy together and gave them a platform to express themselves musically. They called the group, WARD 21 - the name of the Psychiatric Ward at The University Hospital in Kingston, Jamaica.
The group created number one hits like “Haters”, “Rhyme”, “No Apologies”, and “Garrsion” among others. They have toured extensively world wide and gained numerous of dedicated fans globally. WARD 21 released countless singles and 5 studio albums namely “Mentally Disturbed”, “U Know How We Roll”, “'King Of the World”, “Genesis” and the last one “Still Disturbed” in 2014.
Now WARD 21 opens a new chapter of their history. The “Power Surge” EP (Germaica Digital) is the first sign of the new campaign and the apetizer for the upcoming 6th studio effort later this year which will be entirely produced by King Jammy son Jam 2.
“Power Surge” ist just one thing: Original and authentic Dancehall. WARD 21? U can call them the Godfathers of Jamaican Hardcore!
